In the summer of 2004 I went to visit some friends at Sooke. Later on that day I took a car ride to Jordan River and did some hiking on the trails at French Beach Park.Sitka spruce and red cedars were wonderful in those forests overlooking French Beach. I walked the beach soon after and completed this small watercolour.
The waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca were cold but I added lots of warm colours to this painting just to create some mood in this composition. And the reflection off the watercolour paper was pleasant on my eyes as the light was soft that day too!
