Our Winter Solstice in Parksville, B.C. 2019

We visited some friends and stayed with them at their home in Parksville.  The weather was cool but not freezing, with some light rain.  We explored Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park during our stay with them and sketched and enjoyed the winter solstice.  Really beautiful forest of old-growth Douglas fir trees and the view of the Strait of Georgia.

The Forests of Christmas Hill 2019

Just arrived back from Saanich on a late ferry today.  We visited friends and then all hiked the trails in the forested highlands of Christmas Hill.  It was such a lovely summer day with a cool north easterly breeze and we're almost into the fall season.

Owens Point 2019

We visited friends in Port Renfrew and stayed for a few days.  We hiked along the beaches and rocky shoreline at Owens Point, especially at low-tide.  The trails went into the adjacent forest and many blue herons were resting high up on the tree branches.  We enjoyed our time exploring Owens Point, which is the starting point of the West Coast Trail.  Which many years ago we hiked and completed them and one day we plan to revisit them again.

Canada Day with Family in Yale 2019

We visited relatives on this Canada Day holiday up in Yale.  The weather was so lovely and not too warm yet and the drive coming back was quite pleasant.  We hiked at Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park and the forest were lovely and cool.  All the snow has melted higher up in the mountains and we received some light rain showers this evening back where we live.

The Meadows in the Sky 2019

We traveled with friends and visited Mount Revelstoke National Park on this Victoria Day holiday.  The drive was long but we rested along the way.  We hiked up along a beautiful trail system called, the Meadows in the Sky.  As we walked through the forest we saw the lovely blue carpeted wildflowers of the gorgeous bluebells.  An hour later we were hiking higher up into the glorious sub-alpine, with more wildflowers of pinks, reds, yellows and lilac colours.

Duncan and The Cowichan Valley 2019

We left early this morning and visited my wife's friends in Duncan.  During our hike in the mountains overlooking the beautiful Cowichan Valley, we picnicked and sketched wild daffodils along the trails.  The sailing back to the mainland was wonderful with that lovely serene light of sunset.

Wildflowers of Ruckle Provincial Park 2019

We visited friends on Salt Spring Island today and had a lovely time hiking.  At Ruckle Provincial Park, we hiked along the forest trails and many along the seashore.  In the woodland trails the beautiful wildflowers of the snowdrops and wild daffodils can be found and painted.  During the daytime it feels like a cool spring day but around sunset winter can definitely be felt still.

McClymont Park Prince Rupert 2019

We visited some of my wives friends last week up in lovely Prince Rupert.  We walked the beautiful trails at McClymont Park and the winter up there was so mild.  Very little snow around and mostly in the mountains and everyone's so pleased about that.  The brave, small snowdrops are in blossom and without any snow cover, they're easy to be seen and enjoyed.  we flew back and what breathtaking scenery of the coastline and lots of rain and storm clouds especially above Vancouver Island.
