For soon they return to blanket this land,
Complete are those pretty woodland birch trees,
With paper-colored bark gleaming before our eyes ,
It is the ivy strewn all about dark green that defies,
In a region which summons us along our collective journey,
Clark's nutcracker and the wrens brave this arctic chill,
For Elk Lakes Park this season claims our hearts and thrills,
Natures so splendid here on our journey back towards the pass,
It will be the view we need from this lower elevation,
For every step gets us closer to what we searched for,
But crisp as the sudden snows that fall now,
Have quickened our pace to dash along these hours of winters switch,
And leaves the sun to fade us into a dream,
We send the falling trails behind us high in that alpine reach.
