New Year's Eve in Bamfield 2018
We went to see our friends in the community of Bamfield and celebrated the New Year. The road trip was scenic but there was to much rain and the windstorms caused lots of damage. We stayed for a few days and drove back and this winter is still quite mild and everyone's happy there still no snow.

The Winter Solstice in Victoria 2018
It was a mild and sunny day in Victoria and we stopped by Beacon Hill Park to observe the winters solstice. Today the sun was low and glimmered brightly and then it eventually dimmed away beautifully. We could all feel the coldness in the forest and then headed back to our homes.

Nymph Falls Nature Park 2018
We've been so busy the last few months. I've been teaching in Nanaimo and our youngest daughter is beginning University in Victoria. This autumn on the Island our fall colours haven't faded away but are making our forest especially around Nymph Falls Nature Park attractive. The weather just recently has been quite mild and the winter solstice is approaching soon. We leave this beautiful park around late afternoon as the daylight vanishings.

Our Beautiful Last Day of Summer 2018
This fetching moment awaits and lures all to see,
As the sun stood bravely visible,
For not a cloud formed,
Or dreamed all below too go,
And the bold songbirds migrate back and show their beautiful colours,
The delicate air so mild, with just a hint of warmth,
Moves us along these worn down natural trails, yet to be explored,
With lush hills and greens still alive,
One would believe that summer could still survive,
As we observed the fading light of this Friday,
An autumnal equinox will launch us all,
For the new tomorrow day will show us, Fall.

Burns Lake Village 2018
We spent two wonderful weeks with our friends in the rural village of Burns Lake. We fished and painted and they hunted and what a lovely summer and still the temperatures are becoming warmer. We flew back down to Victoria to visit our family and will head back home on the ferry to start work tomorrow.

Canada Day along the Fraser River near Chilliwack 2018
We spent a lovely Canada Day with close friends near their home in Chlliwack. Some of us painted and others fished in the Fraser River. The sun was warm but the breeze was quite cool and most of the wild roses have turned to rosehips. My best friends wife picked them and will make jams as their high in vitamin C. We noticed lots of wildflowers but mainly the pink hollyhocks and the occassional small red poppies, then we drove back to our home in the city.

Village of Cumberland 2018
We left on Friday evening to visit some friends for a wedding in the village of Cumberland, where they live. Everything turned out nice and the weather was still quite cool. The sun did come out in the afternoon. Our next day, we all went for a walk along the hilly trails, the Comox Valley sure is pretty and scenic. It's always breathtaking to see every different shade of green in those spring woodlands. Our ferry sailing back was windy and no real delays but lots of sunlight and the warm days seem to be returning.

Forest at Blue Lake 2018.
We just arrived back home and drove our RV up to visit our friends in Boston Bar. We used our campsite at the picturesque Blue Lake and painted the interesting forest in the back of our lot. The subtle gradations of the greens into grays made an interesting composition as the weather this time of the year is still cold and cloudy; but the air is fresh and alive with the clean scent of nature. We hiked the mountain trails and looked down upon Blue Lake and the views were wonderful. The drive coming back home along the highway was long but comfortable in our vehicle and today the sky was blue. We noticed in our garden the songs of spring so sweetly provided by the robins.

This Winters Moon Over Cape Scott Provincial Park 2018
We walked back through the forest of Cape Scott Park,
At the beautiful time of the day when dusk is nearer,
The winter moon is serene,
For the light around is cast in blue,
And illuminating ever object the same colour.
There's that distinctive chill,
We move quicker to warm ourselves on these mysterious trails,
Along this sleeping land which earlier was warmer,
But now has become colder and silent,
The winter moon shines brighter,
Like the beacon of the night sky it will become,
Only the impressions of our foot steps on this floor of earth will remain.
